"We couldn't manage the cost of Christmas adornments, not to mention a tree, so we stuck a photograph stall photograph on a present tag and balanced it on a plant.
"We've since put it inside a transparent doodad and each Christmas it has pride of spot on our tree.
"We recount to the kids a similar story consistently yet they simply give us an eye roll. They don't have the foggiest idea how fortunate they are.
"The knick-knack is extraordinary to us since it's something we've had since the start and a great token of how far we've come and to be appreciative for what we do have."
Anna Skelton, from Newcastle upon Tyne, hangs the paper chains her significant other and little girl made one wet end of the week 11 years back.
"They've had a couple of fixes en route yet despite everything they're going solid," she said.

Wilma Gravenor, 82, from Taunton is observing Christmas with her tree, which is a similar age as her.
Mrs Gravenor, who was conceived in Barry, Wales, was given the bubbly enhancement when she was an infant.
