West Lothian round-the-world cyclist harmed in US crash


A cyclist endeavoring to ride the world over has been gravely harmed in the wake of being knocked off his bicycle in the US. 

Josh Quigley, 27, from Livingston, must be transported to medical clinic in the wake of being hit by a vehicle while burnning through the province of Texas. 

His wounds incorporate a broke pelvis, ribs and skull, just as a punctured lung. 

The 27-year-old has said it will be at any rate two months before he can walk once more. 

Composing on his Facebook page, he stated: "I don't recollect much about it however I've been told by the police that I was struck from behind by a vehicle driving at 70mph. 

"After the vehicle hit me I was propelled off the bicycle and landed 50 feet away. 

"This happened while riding around evening time wearing intelligent dressing and with solid back lights." 

Mr Quigley, who said one of only a handful hardly any things he recollects is being in the helicopter, included that "until further notice I'm only glad to be alive". 

Known as the Tartan Explorer, Mr Quigley has cycled around 14,000 miles on his bicycle since he left Scotland in April. 

He set out on the excursion to beat sadness and liquor misuse and said in his Facebook post about the accident that he will "figure out how to defeat this and finish what I began". 

The episode is one of various mishaps looked by Mr Quigley since he began his outing including sweat destroying his visa in Australia, which implied he needed to fly back to Britain to get another one preceding continuing with his visit. 

In April, only weeks into his reality endeavor, hoodlums took his bicycle, which he nicknamed Braveheart, from outside an inn in London. 

Mr Quigley had been wanting to cycle from Los Angeles to New York in the most recent leg of his outing however changed course to complete in the hotter atmosphere of Florida since his water bottles continued freezing in the US winter conditions.
